Yakutia
(Respublika Sakha)
~
Yakutia is the largest republic in federal Russia. Yakutia is the old name, the independent republic is now called "Respublika Sakha". Yakutia is vast slab of stretching from just north of lake Baikal all the way to the Arctic Ocean. The capital of Yakutia is Yakutsk on the banks of the impressive Lena river. For the uninitiated Yakutia is probably most famous for it's diamond mines. Systematic collectors appreciate localities like the Murun massif and the skarns of Titovskoye.
Aikhal is a large diamond mine southwest of Udachyye and much lesser known. Aikhal is located in the Alakit-Markha diamond field.
Allakh Yull is a rather obscure locality in northeastern Yakutia. Not much is known so far about this locality by me, except it is a amalgame locality.

Chernchevsky / Akhtaragda river / Vilui river
geology
Three synonyms for the same locality! This is the place where Akhtaragda river
flows into the Vilui river, near the settlement of Chernchevsky, southern
Yakutia.
The geology of the deposit starts a layer of tuffaceous
sedimentary rock, deposited by the early stage of the giant Siberian flood
basalt eruptions. These tuff layers where altered by layers of carbonaceous
material derived from weathered paleozoic sediments. The subsequent Triassic
diabase dike formation, which is also part of the Siberian Flood basalt
formation, altered the layered carbonaceous-tuff rocks into a skarn or
rodinginte like rock. The original tuff layers produced green serpentine rocks
with grey akhtarandite and viluite and the carbonate layers produced a rodingite
like rock with white akhtarandite and (hydro)grossular. These layered rocks form
a 120 meter long outcrop along the Vilui reservoir.
Sometimes this locality is mentioned as diamond locality. So
far I could not find any evidence and if diamonds occur here. There is however a
volcanic pipe called "Eringa" 3kilometers away.

"Akhtarandite"*, Andradite, Grossular*, Vesuvianite, Viluitite*.
If you like question marks on your minerals labels, this is the place to be! All specimen from this locality need quantitative analyses. Vesuvianite and Viluite can only be distinguished by analyses, the same goes for the garnets. "Akhtaragdite" is a peculiar pseudomorph. The pseudomorphs consist of a complex mixture of minerals. All publications I read about it name different compositions. Alex Kipfer in his Mineralindex (1974), mentiones a mixture of grossular, kaolinite, clinochlor, pennin and dolomite pseudomorph after helvine. But today the consensus seems to be Hibschite pseudomorph after Wadalite. Akhtarandite is also spelled as Akhtaragdite, Achtarandite and Achtaragdite.

The intrusion is quite complex and took place in country rock consisting of
Riphean sediments.. The center of the round intrusion is made up of
dunites. Around this is a zone of apo-dunites, shonkinites and pyroxenites.
The outer zone consists of syenite porphyries. In the dunite zone are some
alkaline lenses and there are pulaskites in the apo-dunite zone. To the
northwest of the intrusion are diorites and gneiss. The Inagly river has it's
source in the intrusion and the river and it's feeding creeks hold valuable

Kuranakh deposit
geology
Kuranakh is a well known gold deposit in the central block of the Aldan shield.
It is a metasomatic deposit and the Delbe ore body is part of this
deposit. A lower area in the Archean basement was filled up with lower Cambrian
sediments. These are limestones, dolomites and marles of the VerkhneUngely and
Kutorgina groups. All this was later covered by Jurssic sandstones. There are
only minor Jurassic intrusions of syenite porphyries and kersantites. Ores are
found at the contact of the Cambrian and Jurassic sediments, as well as along
the intrusions.

with postmagmatic sodium chloride solutions formed small fosterite magnetite
orebodies. The second, an alaskite granite with post magmatic potassium fluoride
solutions formed magnetite, sulfide and boron mineralisation. A final magmatic
intrusion did not leave many minerals, but altered some existing ones.

This is the easy way out for me! I encountered a few possible mineral localities which I have to sort out further when I get more info. I have several sketchy descriptions of boron skarns in the vicinity of Verkhoyansk. Below is my Ludwigite from 'Verkhoyansk'. Verkhoyansk is not only a town, but also a very large mountain range in Polar Yakutia. Titovskoye, mentioned above, is a similar skarn located in polar Yakutia, possibly in the Verkhoyansk range. Recently Pertsevite was discovered 'in Verkhoyansk'. Again this mineral is from a boron skarn, associated with Ludwigite and others. A more close investigation learns that this locality is actually 250km east of Verkhoyansk where the Kebernin'ya creek flows into the Dogdo river.

Do not confuse this Yuzhnoye with Yuzhnoye in the Southern Urals!
